For the last couple of weeks, I have been working on a personal project. I recently realised that, over the past 7 to 11 years, I have been listening to various toxic and negative people who only criticised my writing. This severely damaged my confidence and motivation to write. Although it saddens me that I wasn’t able to recognise this and get those individuals out of my life sooner, I am glad I was finally about to see what was happening and do something about it 💪
This project is helping me push out the voices that replay those damaging comments so that I can regain my self-esteem. I also realised that there were gaps in my storytelling knowledge, so I have been filling those blanks. I already feel better and more like I used to be as a writer. I can’t wait to apply all that I have learnt once the project is finished ❤️
This time of year, I am usually getting ready to take part in the annual April Camp NaNoWriMo. However, I am aware of ongoing concerns surrounding the recent situation with their organisation. So, until these have been resolved, I plan to do my own version of the challenge next month (April 1st to April 30th).
I am not yet sure which story I will work on during that timeframe as I have a few in mind, but I will announce my decision on April 1st 😂
If you would like to follow my journey during April's challenge, I will be posting a new update here every week. Each post will have a summary of the progress I've made as well as details about the story I'll be working on.
I will also be posting a shorter version of my updates on Instagram on the same day as the blog posts. Please feel free to check those out if you prefer quicker reading.
Stayed tuned!
