I Got So Far, But in the End ... I Have to Rewrite my Novel

Shout out to those who get the (questionable) Linkin Park reference 😄 ...

At the end of last week, I had a bit of an epiphany and finally stopped resisting an ugly truth about my manuscript: one of my biggest creative blocks is its POV 😭

When I write a story, I don't usually go in with a specific POV style in mind. I simply write the story as it comes to me. For my current novel, that meant it naturally ended up in limited third person.

At first, this worked really well. It gave a strong sense of isolation to my main character, which suited both her personality and the world she lives in.

But the more I worked on the story, the more I realised it was making other parts of the narrative much harder to write - especially anything involving the wider world or subplots she wasn't directly involved in.

So, last week, while organising my plot threads and checking whether any important scenes were missing, I found myself worrying about how I was going to realistically show certain pieces of information to thr reader without my main character knowign them.

And that's when I finally stopped fighting the inevitable.

Which means I now have the slightly terrifying task of rewriting the entire novel in a new POV: limited omniscient.

Wish me luck 🤞

Keep your eyes peeled for more news on my writing here and on my Instagram!
