Welcome to the Monthly Roundup: April 2025 edition!
Where I provide an up-to-date summary of all my current projects 😊
Creative Project(s):
I've been finding character edits for Sanctuary-on-Severn tough lately - the weight of the task I have really settled on me. I have both general characters and then specific ones for three different characters. At first, I considered editing the entire manuscript separately for each character and the general character edit notes, but the idea of doing four full passes back-to-back felt overwhelming.
Instead, I decided to take a more manageable, bitesize approach: I'm editing one chapter at a time, tackling all character-specific and general character edits within that chapter before moving on. It still takes time, but it feels less daunting.
I have finished all of my character edits for Chapter 1 two days ago and Chapter 2 is prepped and ready to be edited, so I'm hopeful my momentum is finally kicking back in again.
Structural edits were much easier (for me at least) 😅
To see my previous and future progress on this project, you can follow my My Week as a Writer posts on Instagram as well as my Monthly Roundup posts on this blog!
I am also dipping into several other projects when I have time and/or need a break from editing my main project.
Current Read:
I am currently reading The Song of the Blackthorn Tree manuscript from my book coach, Rachel Giffin. I am also reading a number of non-fiction books and articles on my new obsession of Positive Psychology. This is such a fascinating subject that looks at celebrating our strengths and working on healing to live a more meaningful, happy, and confident life. I am planning to share some of my learnings and how they can help others, including fellow writers, in the future 🙂
Other projects:
My free time, outside of my full time job, is still split between:
- Editing Sanctuary-on-Severn
- Therapy sessions
- Organising my wedding
- Book Coach sessions with Rachel Giffin
- Learning more about Positive Psychology, improving my attention span, and getting back into flow states
- Watching webinars from ProWritingAid (on YouTube and their community), Rachel Giffin, and Brandon Sanderson
- Making sure to stay in touch with friends and family
- And training/walking Skif, the puppy
- I also got a new tattoo
Keep your eyes peeled for more news here and on my Instagram!
... so, there you have it, an up-to-date roundup of all my current projects 🙂
