My Guilty Secret Hiding in Plain Sight

Every writer has a secret ...

Maybe it's a ritual they have before (and/or after) they write. Maybe it's that personal hygiene quietly goes out the window when they're in the flow. Or perhaps it's the guilty pleasure snacks they squirrel away and demolish at their desk.

I've definitely been guilty of a few of those over the years.

But my biggest writer secret hides in plain sight.

As you can just about make out in the photo above, my desk is framed by two bookcases. One one of those shelves isn't filled with books I've read.

It's filled with stories I haven't finished.

Incomplete novels. Half-written novellas. Short stories that exist only as outlines and scribbled notes.

And I don't mean one, or two, or even five ... I'm talking 15+ stories patiently waiting for me to come back to them 😨

Not exactly the most scandalous confession, I know, but it's definitely the one that keeps me awake at night.

Some days, that shelf fills me with excitement: Look at all those ideas! Imagine all the stories still waiting to be told!

Other days, it's more like: Look at all those ideas ... how am I ever going to finish them all?😭

It's both incredibly motivating and overwhelming in equal measure.

If I'm being completely honest, one of my biggest fears is that I won't have enough time in my lifetime to write every story I want to tell. But I'm certainly going to give it my best shot.

One story at a time. Though, for now, all those stories will have to wait their turn. Sanctuary on Severn is still my current priority.

Wish me luck 😄

Keep your eyes peeled for more news on my writing here and on my Instagram!
