Camp April: Week 4 & Finish Update

Camp is officially over - it's time to pack up the tent ready for next time 🏕️

As I check the campsite one last time to make sure I've left nothing behind, a sadness wraps around me like a cold breeze. But it is tinged with happiness and gratitude. Spending time at the camp for the past 4 weeks has been a lot of fun and focus. I am sad to leave, but I have learnt so much and, besides, there's only a couple of months until the next one!

The last week (and 2 days) of April was a little slower with progress. I got a new tattoo done on my left arm at the end of Week 3. I am right-handed, so thought this would be fine but apparently forgot how slow I am at typing one handed 😅

The good news is that it should be fully healed by sometime next week and I can get back to typing with both hands! The bad news is that I'm a little behind where I would prefer to be, but that's okay🙂

Since you are reading this on my blog, here is a sneak peek into my final thoughts for my new process:

Although I managed to get through the first 2 large sections relatively quickly and easily, I have been having a large block with getting the character and worldbuilding details down. Unfortunately, this could be for several reasons.

1. My own internal conflicts - I am still fighting the negative/toxic thought patterns that I talked about in my Writing Update: March 2024 post. Also, trying to sit and think of (or create) a bunch of 'facts' is something that my brain has always struggled with and often becomes overwhelmed even if the task is split into smaller ones.

2. External conflicts - As I have mentioned before, I still have a full time job (not related to writing), which during busy periods, can leave me feeling too tired to be creative. I am also getting married next year (October 2025), so getting things ready for that is currently taking up quite a bit of my free time.

My plan of action is to experiment with a few different changes and see which ones help improve my ability to work through the character details and worldbuilding details sections of my new process. Wish me luck!

If you would like to follow my writing/editing journey, I will be posting a new update here at the end of each month. Each post will have a summary of the progress I've made, my editing goals for each month, as well as other details about my novel. Some months will have more to read than others depending on my progress as well as which stage of editing I am in at any point.

I will also be posting a shorter version of my updates on Instagram on the same day as the blog posts. Please feel free to check those out if you prefer quicker reading.

Stayed tuned for more updates!
