Two of the most important things a writer should try to obtain: joy and community ...
This week, one of my closest friends, Aspen Mars (who is also a writer), introduced me to a wonderful little game called On-Together Virtual Co-Working.
In this game, you can create several different characters that you can customise and play. There are adorable pets to find and mini games you can play to your heart's content.
During focus sessions that use the pomodoro technique, your character can write, exercise, meditate, connect, eat, paint, read, do chores (and more) alongside you.
Focus sessions - and some of the mini games - reward you with tickets. These can then be spent on food items with special abilities, as well as clothes, shoes, and accessories for both your character and their desk.
You can play on your own private server, create one with your friends, or join an existing public server and interact with others there. When you minimise the window to work on something else, you can still see the characters quietly working away together on your screen.
Of course, something like this won't work for everyone. But for someone who has been stuck in a productivity slump, it has genuinely helped me get moving again - and that's been exciting.
If you enjoy whimsical little games that help you stay productive, I would definitely recommend giving it a try. With the music DLC as well, it only cost me £8.44 in their sale (£10.99 at their regular price). FOr me, that's been incredible value for money.
I'll always be grateful Mars showed it to me.
